Across Somalia, there are severe droughts caused by missed rains of gu’ and dayr (spring and fall rains). The most affected areas include Eastern Somaliland and Gedo. More than 70% of the local community of Gedo and Jubba regions in Somalia are facing severe draught.

Water scarcity in the area of Somaliland and Gedo has reached its peak and shallow wells, including other water sources, have dried up and ran out of water. This has caused thousands of residents to flee from the area to the nearby cities, and towns and even some of them have crossed the Kenyan border. They were forced to leave behind their livestock, homes, and their belongings.

Local authorities have declared emergency as more than fifteen villages are now suffering from this severe drought crisis. This could turn into a tragedy if it continues without immediate relief. HARO is planning to respond to this crisis as quickly as possible. We ask all of you to contribute to this cause and relieve the people from the suffering caused by shortage of water, a right and a necessity of every human.
